Brian and I both did a triathlon at Hagg Lake this year. I’ve done relays with Brian before (running once and biking once), but it was my first time doing a full sprint triathlon, and I loved it! I tried to get my friends to join me, and was so happy that Katie decided to do it with me.
Brian’s wave started before ours:
Like a phoenix rising out of the ashes. Ha. Kind of dramatic, though.
Brian was super speedy with his swim, as always.
And then ours started about 5 minutes later I think:
We were purple-capped.
I was much faster than I felt. I did the 1/2 mile swim in about 12 minutes, which was about what I had done in practice. The water was pretty choppy, so I was very happy with this time! Note to self: tuck ears under cap next time.
Thank you, Travis, who took a bunch of pictures of Brian and me. I’m usually the one who takes pictures at these events, but with both of us racing, I was happy that Travis took some! The triathlon also gave pictures away for free this year, so there were a bunch of those too.
Brian started biking:
Brian was speedy at this too.
And then I started biking:
I was much faster at this part than I thought I would be—about 42 minutes I think for a 12.5 mile bike ride. It was a very hilly, challenging course.
Then Brian ran:
And I started my run:
This is probably how I looked when I saw Brian running towards me, about to finish his run.
My legs felt like lead for at least the first 1/4 mile—and then I felt really slow. The 5k took me about 31 minutes, so it’s where I could improve the most.
Right before the finish line! // blowing kisses to my girls and Brian
I felt strong at the end, and was so happy to have finished. I didn’t place, and probably never will, but that’s okay!
Our cute raggedy girls were the best cheerleaders! Barbara and Regina were a huge help taking care of our girls. Georgia, especially, was a little difficult—so thank goodness for Barbara who held her for the first hour of crying—poor Georgia has major separation anxiety.
Brian did really well! He placed first in his division and beat his best time by 5 minutes! He’s awesome!!
Brian made the cutest sign for me! Love these guys!
We had to get the girls up really early in the morning for our race, so Georgia was just wiped on the way home and fell asleep right away—picture worthy, for sure!
Such great pictures! I love all your blog posts, and read them religiously - I just don't always comment. Keep 'em coming!
