Happy birthday Brian!

IMG_9096

Elna made this Elephant for Brian to take to work with him on his birthday.  Pretty cute!  I took this picture of them in our new addition, which is attached to our family room.  Cant wait for it to be done!  Elna has the best smile!

The traditional Happy Birthday picture—every year since Brian became a dad!  Georgia seems so grown up in these pictures!

We are all obsessed with this guy of ours!  He is really the best!  Happy happy birthday to Brian!

Charlotte’s Web

IMG_9143

Elna had to draw her favorite book character and she chose Charlotte, from Charlotte’s Web.  I LOVE what she came up with.  I didn’t help at all!  She’s so creative, I think!

I love these pictures Brian captured of us reading Charlotte’s Web.  The girls and I loved reading this one!  I cried at the end, which I’m sure I didn’t do when I was little, but man, so good!

Look at that Hattie!  I love reading to my girls.  We still read a lot of picture books, but usually at night we read chapter books, and both of the girls are loving it.  They really like the Boxcar Children, Sarah Plain and Tall, Skylark, Ivy and Bean, and some others I’m now forgetting.  When I’m old, these are the images I hope I remember with my children.

Welcome to Elna’s barn

IMG_9026

Elna loves doing crafts and is usually working away at something.  This is definitely one of my favorite creative projects she has done.

The elephant was her first one // cat and a sheep

Giraffe // pig (specifically, Wilbur)

Charlotte (from Charlotte’s Web) and a bee caught in her web.  I really really love this one!

IMG_9110

This needs some interpretation—I love asking Elna, because I had a hard time reading it the first time, and when I asked her what it meant, she read it to me like it was just obvious.  Ha!  This is what it says:  “The barn is open.  Want to come?  But be careful about the animals.”

Projects and reading

IMG_9117

I should have included this picture on our pumpkin patch post, because Elna drew it right after we went and the pumpkins are a good representation of what we saw there—orange pumpkins, green pumpkins, and a bunch of pumpkins that were orange and green.

Elna was supposed to be asleep, so when I heard little feet I was all ready to be a little bugged, when she showed me this note.  She’s drawn lot of pictures for me, but never written a note like this.  My heart!  And in case you need a little transitioning: “I love my mommy because she cares about other people.  Love Elna Fae Harris.  I love you Mommy.  Oh, I luv her!

IMG_8956

She made an envelope with my name on it (love the spelling!) and put this heart in it.

IMG_9037

I love that Elna can read to her sisters now!

IMG_9150

Can’t even wait to get dressed before diving into a book after her shower.  If I can’t find her, it’s likely she’s in a random nook of our house reading.

Very excited girls after a big library haul.

The girls are obsessed with The Princess in Black!

IMG_9298

Proof of their obsession: after reading the first book, Elna created this mask (and not pictured, but just as amazing—a black cape made out of paper and arm cuffs)

IMG_9302IMG_9304

And not to be outdone, Hattie found this raccoon mask and put on a tiara.

More reading (Princess in Black for Hattie, of course) at Grandma’s.  I’m so happy they love to read as much as they do!

Anniversary trip gone wrong

The weekend of our anniversary we were supposed to go to the beach for three days.  But, Elna got the worst stomach flu.  It was seriously awful!  She threw up about 20 times in a 24 hour period.  Just about every hour all night long and all the next day she threw up.  She was miserable!  So, we canceled our trip and stayed home with our three little darlings!  The only good thing about it all was that Brian was home to help with everything.  Such a blessing!

Once Elna was feeling better, we had to get out of the house, so one of the days we went to their favorite park.

IMG_8983IMG_8984

Then we headed out to do some shopping and grab some food to eat for dinner.

IMG_8987

On the way there, Georgia started acting kind of funny, and then was doing this with her hand over her mouth a lot.  Finally she fell asleep like this.  I wondered if she was sick.  When Brian got her out of the car at Target she just started throwing up—luckily we were out of the car, so Brian just held her out in front of him so that she threw up in the parking lot.  Ugh.  Another one bites the dust!  Poor baby.  Instead of all of us going in, I just ran in with the older girls to grab a few things.  On the way out I grabbed some icees, thinking that they might feel good on sick tummies.

IMG_8988

Dinner out was no longer an option, so we headed home for another night in.

IMG_8999

The next day Brian had to go back to work and I did a lot of this.

IMG_9011

And lots of laundry!  Georgia hasn’t really gotten the throw-up bucket thing down.

IMG_9010

She would just bury her head in my lap and sleep for hours.

IMG_9006IMG_9008

Or she would lay on me awake.  I really couldn’t complain.  Until I also got it!  Stomach flu on top of 24/7 morning sickness wasn’t something I’d like to experience again.

IMG_9016

Bless Jillian!  She dropped by one for each of us sickies—on her birthday!!!  I should have been doing something fun for her, and instead she was serving me.  It was very humbling for me.  I am so blessed!

IMG_8976

After all of the sickness had passed through, Brian and I finally did a little celebrating.  We went out to dinner and got pedicures.  Best husband, right?  I have the best guy and I know it!  He’s perfect and I love him!  There’s no one I’d rather spend sick days with!
